Soon
Almost 3 years. The site is showing its age. It's got me working on a
redesign. More elegant, more streamlined. Less Y2K. It'll even have a
section devoted to my violin.
Recently
Apparently, it is possible to walk up stairs and across a stage while
playing the violin. There was even a tree to negotiate. From September
6 through November 17 I could be found in Chicago
Shakespeare's production of Love's Labor's Lost. 8 beautiful
shows each week. And the Tribune reserved special praise for the music.

Fulcrum Point
Bowles, Brecht, Blues & Burlesque with Studs Terkel, soprano
Tony Arnold, Yours
Truly, and Stephen Burns' Fulcrum Point New Music Project. Presented on
April 6 by Performing
Arts Chicago
It's rare that I get to exercise my musical and theatrical muscles at
the same time. On this concert, I recited poetry of Paul Bowles and Frank
O'Hara over and around the Fulcrum Point ensemble.
The Sun-Times said that I "projected a strong presence" and
showed "energetic aplomb." That was nice.
Loss
I feel very fortunate to have been a student of Byrne Piven. I miss his

Conscience
Friends ask about my current project. I evade. I change the subject.
I become very self-deprecating. Actually, I've been working on something.
By myself. A short digital video. I evade because it involves a fairly
famous soliloquy by a fairly famous playwright. The thing keeps bouncing
around my brain.
Cheap Shots
My friend Chris Tzoubris and I have finished Cheap
Shots, a film we shot in early 2001. I was behind the camera for
this one. The 5 actors (including Chris) improvised non-stop for an hour
and a half. The final edit runs 26 minutes. A fascinating look at one
late evening in a bar. We've screened it for the cast and friends, but
we're not sure whether we'll try to release it to a larger audience. It
was the perfect exercise and we learned a great deal. (If you want to
see it, email
me.) We're currently working on another, less improvised, project.

I started directing in a film class.
The result is actually on the site right now, but I'm still testing to
make sure it loads properly.
I'm always up to no good, so come back soon for the most up-to-date Dave
info. Please.
